COMMUNICATION, 2005 – 2007

The Communication project is conceived as a creative educational platform that employs photographic medium as a tool for establishing a dialogue and communication between young people coming from different and often conflicted ethnic backgrounds.

The project started in 2005 in the South Serbia region. For twelve weeks nineteen young Serbs, Albanians and Roma from cities of Bujanovac and Preševo were working together on documenting their lives while learning about each other. The participants were using simple snap-shot cameras and color negative films. At that way, the focus was put on the creative act of the photographic observing and observed, while the photographic medium was used as a starting point for the communication between the members of the ethnic groups that are too often separated.

During the year 2006 young people from three more regions were included into the project, so nearly 80 teenagers from Subotica, Novi Pazar, Bujanovac, Preševo, Pristina and Lipljan participated in the second cycle of the workshops.

In 2008 the Communication project received Erste Foundation Award for Social Integration.
